Oxygen’s BGC Mexico: Loud & Clear on Double Standard

When Oxygen network premiered Season 9 of the very popular reality show, “Bad Girls Club Mexico”, I was ready for the drama, but it was a season like never before. Just recently ending the season with an even explosive first time ever 3 part BGC Reunion, there was more to Bad Girls Club this season than just drama and fighting. The biggest thing that I noticed as a viewer is the amount of girl on girl action. I have been watching BGC for years now and I cannot remember this much girl on girl kissing and much more in a season.

While this is something that keeps the viewers interested, especially the viewers looking for just that type of action, it just kept me wondering that based on the reactions of the viewers this would never be accepted by a Bad Boys Club.

There has never been a Bad Boys Club, and some can count the spin off show, “Love Games” as such, but if there was a BBC Season and guys were making out and more together as roommates, I sadly doubt that viewers would appreciate those moments as much as girl on girl.

This is the double standard that we have in our society regarding sexuality between men and women. Even if you look at adult entertainment, girl on girl action is so common that it can easily be placed within straight entertainment even though it is same sex interactions just as male on male action and nothing different.

It is just difficult to understand how society believes that females are the only ones who have desires or fantasies of being with the same sex at least once as a sexual being. Even though it is not acknowledged, some men have these same desires and fantasies, however they are so afraid of what society or their sexual partner would think of them, men sometimes suppress these desires or worse, cheat on their spouse or significant other behind closed doors.

Until we can accept that men and women are more equal than different when it comes to sexuality, then people think or want to admit, this type of situation will continue to occur. Men kissing men in movies, television, etc. should not be as big of an issue for people to be comfortable with and until more of it is shown, it will never change.
